Lately, the topic of discussion has been focussed on the NOT needed ‘fuel’ price hike in India. There were rumors that price of ‘petrol’ was to be hiked by INR 20/litre, which would make the fuel costs INR 70/litre in Mumbai, India.
However, the Government has dismissed all rumors of such a steep hike. The likely price hike would be around INR 5/litre.
A quick comparison of fuel prices with other countries shows some stunning results. The figures are shown in USD / litre for ease of comparison.
Current petrol price in Mumbai, India = USD $1.25
- United States = $1.04
- Canada = $1.37

- Italy = $2.32
- Finland = $2.36
- Germany = $2.36
- Norway = $2.56

The results may look stunning. Reality is even bitter. In India, you do’nt have to rush to nearest grocery store in a car just to get milk!
Barring road conditions and politicians India is still liveable with a little smile on the face. You can twist democracy, murder, kill anyone and our sweet Manmohan Singh will still sleep at 8pm-8am.
