Ctrl+Enter Hotkey Fix in Internet Explorer

Filed Under: Software, Tutorials / Tweaks    by: Ritesh

For the last couple of days, my Ctrl + Enter hotkey wasnt working in Internet Explorer (IE), and I cant be using Firefox (FF) because it takes up all my resources, and my PC becomes really slow.

Let me tell you that I am a huge fan of the Ctrl + Enter hotkey, without which I feel very uncomfortable. You need to type the domain you wish to visit in the address bar, eg: google, and hit Ctrl + Enter. IE will automatically make it http://www.google.com

Now for the quick solution. Its very simple, and it doesnt require any registry hack.

Hot KeyOpen your Internet Explorer. Goto Tools-> Internet Options.

Under the ‘Content’ tab, pleass “AutoComplete”.

The checkbox for “Web Addresses” should be ticked if you want this hotkey to work.

Voila - Now your hotkey will work like a charm.

Does anyone know the hotkey to append “.net” instead of “.com”?

    Ctrl + Enter - Auto-complete *.com address
    Shift + Enter - Auto-complete *.net address
    Ctrl + Shift + Enter - Auto-complete *.org address

Add ALT in any of the above shortcuts and it’ll open in a new TAB :P

@Devesh - I knew about Shift+Enter, but it only works in FF. Doesnt work in IE, or maybe there is some IE tweak/setting ?
