Once upon a time, in a town far far away, 2 students, Windows & Linux were very popular in their local school. Half the class would favor Windows, while the rest would favor Linux. There would often be fights among the class mates over Windows & Linux.
Fed up with the constant fights, the teacher decided to test both of them in simple calculations. She was to ask both of them 3 questions, and whoever answered all of them was the winner.
The test was scheduled on 12th of June 2008. We bring you the live results.
Question 1
Teacher: What is 5 ^ 2 ? ( ^ stands for ‘raised to the power’ )
Windows answered: The answer is 25

Linux answered:Huh! That’s too easy! Are you insulting me? Here’s the answer. Now ask more difficult ones.

Since both of them answered it correctly, the teacher moved on to the second question. The score was level 1 - 1.
Question 2
Teacher: What is 123 ^ 123 ?
Teacher:Windows? What is this e+257 ? Who asked you to express the result in an exponential form? I want the complete result, accurate up to the last unit’s place.
Windows:Sorry Madam! I don’t know how to calculate so accurately.
Teacher:Linux! Can you answer it the way I want?
Linux answered:Sure Ma’am! Have a look at my answer.

Teacher:That is indeed the correct answer! The score now is Linux 2 - Windows 1. This is the final question.
Question 3
Teacher: Calculate 12345 ^ 12345 ?
Windows answered:

Teacher:You are calling my question invalid? Ridiculous!! You should rather be saying, “Sorry! This is too much for me to calculate. I can’t do such huge computations.” Linux, I hope you won’t let me down.
Linux answered:Certainly not ma’am! You give me anything to do! I will always give you the answer and that too the way you want, correct up to the unit’s place. Here’s my answer.

Linux:Ma’am the length of this result is seven hundred and forty lines (740 lines!!!) and I have calculated all the fifty thousand, five hundred ten digits (50510 digits!!!) accurately. Teacher: Mind blowing Linux! Very well done!
…..And Windows and Linux never fought thereafter. (How we all wish)

@Sathya - I thought of you while writing this post. Knew you’d be around when I mention “Linux”. I’ve tried installing Linux a couple of times on my PC, but fail to find simple thing like “My Computer” etc, cant play songs, cant find browser, so I’ve lost hope. Though I’d love to get some basic formal training
@Manan - Have you ever used a Linux machine before? Comfortable using?
@Devesh - Absolutely Likewise - I think I should try getting Linux on my box again and press “F1 Sathya” if I’m stranded

Hardy is truly exceptional.
However, my XP Pro installation is still hanging on in dual boot cos I need to run Sony Vegas for video editing. Nothing out there on Linux for video man!
June 13th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
Easier said than done @Sathya. I guess i’ll have to get a box first where I can install Linux, dont want this happening on the laptop.
@Prashant - Video Editing for work, or TP ? Sathya might be able to help you if there is any video editing software in Linux.

Naa man Prashanth is right for Professional Video Editing, nothing on Linux.
he can have a look at this though:

Thanks for the link Sathya - not sure how useful it would be for Prashant.

Nothing professional… although there isn’t anything even halfway close to what a Win or OSX platform might have for video.
It doesn’t mean I don’t love my Ubuntu install.
Only boot into WinXP when I need to get some screen time with video.
