We’ve all heard of news about Microsoft wanting to take over the online search component of Yahoo!, but the deal fell through.
Whats new is Yahoo! has agreed a major deal to use Google’s advertising technology. The tie-up will see Google ads appear alongside Yahoo! search results in the US and Canada. Currently, its unclear as to how it will affect the UK market. This move will further boost Google’s dominance.
The chairman and chief executive of Google says: “This commercial agreement provides Yahoo! with the opportunity to deliver more relevant ads to users and produce advertisers and publishers with better advertising technology to help them succeed in their own businesses.”
The agreement between Yahoo! and Google could be worth £410m in additional revenue every year. Initially the deal will run for 3 years, with Yahoo! having the option to extend it to 10 years.
