autorickshaw meter With the recent hike in CNG prices, the auto unions were demanding a steep hike in their fares. The base fare for the first 1.6km was Rs 9/- and the union wanted to increase this fare to Rs 15/-.

The govt however have not increased the fare so much but Mumbaikars will now have to pay Rs 11/- as the base fare for the next auto ride they take. The fares are now at par with the fares of the autos plying in Thane / Vashi area.

no honking I’ve often noticed that the car horns are often misused by Mumbaikars. In fact, many of us go to great length’s to install extra loud horns – some have fancy horns – but in the bargain what we don’t realize is how much we add to the noise pollution.

Honking has become a part of driving. How many times have you taken your car and in the entire journey, not honked at all? Surprisingly – None of us can say ‘Zero’. I’m not saying we shouldn’t be using the horn at all – but instead use it only when necessary.

There is a possibility of a hike in CNG prices in Mumbai next week. Amidst this possibility, the autorickshaw union has made a fresh demand for a 67% hike in the base fare (Their earlier demand was to increase the fare by Re 1/- so the fares in Mumbai and Navi mumbai could be the same). The current Autorickshaw fare in Mumbai is Rs 9/- for the first 1.6 km. They want this base fare to be increased to Rs 15/-, much more than what the current base taxi fare is.

But, slowly a lot of people are preferring the Meru Cabs (The AC taxi service in Mumbai). You can book them online, or over the phone. Say you have an early morning flight and need to reach the airport at 5am.
