We had mentioned how people flock Jalsa, Amitabh Bachchan’s residence at Juhu. One of the other places worth visiting in Mumbai is Mannat, Shah Rukh Khan’s residence at Bandstand, Bandra. Earlier, SRK used to stay on the top floor of a building on Carter Road, and has now moved to his own bungalow at bandstand.
The Gateway of India is the most famous monument in Mumbai, located on the waterfront in Apollo Bunder area in South Mumbai. The Gateway is 26 metres (85 ft) high. It was a crude jetty used by fisher folks and was later renovated and used as a landing place for British governors and other distinguished personages. In earlier times, the Gateway was the monument that visitors arriving by boat would have first seen in the city of Bombay.
Jalsa, Amitabh Bachchan’s famous bungalow at Juhu, is a landmark by itself. Most people who visit Mumbai for the first time really want to see the bungalow. Uptil recently, it was one of the stops of the Mumbai Darshan bus. As far as I understand, the bungalow has been removed as one of the ‘places to visit’ in the Mumbai Darshan itenary.
Everyday, hundreds of people throng outside the bungalow to catch a glimpse of the great actor.
If you’re visiting Mumbai for the first time, most people would recommend you to visit Essel World / Water Kingdom. It is India’s largest amusement park, situated in Gorai, Mumbai. It attracts 10,000 visitors daily.
Essel World has rides, an ice skating ring, bowling alley and a discotheque, whereas Water Kingdom, as the name suggests is a place for water babies – its full of water rides, an ideally place to beat mumbai’s heat.
