MMC, SD cards are used extensively on mobile phones. These days, mobile phones are just like mini laptops where they are capable of handling most of the functions, so quite possible, that you store your important files/documents on your card.
There is always an element of risk of loosing your cell phone, and so you password protect your card, so if your mobile is stolen, atleast you know that your data is safe.
